ZTE Strikes Android & Chrome Patent Deal with Microsoft
April 26, 2013

China-based mobile phone maker ZTE inked a patent licensing agreement with Microsoft on April 23, according to a news report by Reuters. Under the agreement, ZTE will pay Microsoft a royalty in exchange of an access to Microsoft's patent portfolio for Smartphones, tablets, computers, and other devices running Google's Android and Chrome OS (Operating System). The financial terms were not disclosed. While Google offers Android OS free of charge to mobile phone makers, Microsoft successfully claimed that the OS uses its patented technology. So far Microsoft has reached patent deals with numerous Android Smartphone makers, including Samsung, LG, and HTC. However, ZTE's Chinese competitor Huawei and Google's Motorola Mobility are yet to sign similar deals with Microsoft.
